Tribute: On July 6th, Brenda and Jerry fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Mac after he was seizing, vomiting, and not able to stand from underlying illness.

Brenda shared, "When I first saw his photo I knew I had to have him. I fell in love with him before I even met him. Sometimes he was hard to get close to. I don’t know if he was in pain or just an angry old man. I nicknamed him ‘Cujo’.

I knew when he wanted me to pick him up, he would stand in front of me and sway back and forth to let me know he would let me pick him up. Contact with him was on his terms, many times when I reached to pet him when he was in his bed he would try to bite me. He did get me quite a few times, but I never stopped trying.

I was patient with him and always talked to him. One night I tried to get him out of his bed, I sat down beside him and talked to him for 45 minutes to get to go out to potty before we went to bed, he finally got up and came out with me.

I loved him so much and tried to give him a good life, because I don’t know what had happened to him in his passed life. He was either in pain or terribly abuse. That is where I got my patience from, figuring that is what he had to go through.

He is not suffering any longer and will always have a place in my heart for that little guy. I will always love him."

Tribute: On February 28th, Norma fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Marco after battling kidney disease.

She shared,

"I was able to care for Marco for 3 years. Of all the dogs I have ever had, he was the best. He could just melt you with those big brown eyes. All he ever wanted was love and I know I was able to give him that.

He didn't trust anyone enough to let them pet him except my daughter and myself. He would be sleeping and when I went into another room and when I looked up there he was. Wherever I went he was there. We were told he was a biter but we never saw it. They said he didn't like men.

Frosted Faces is a wonderful organization and I thank you for Marco. After my husband passed, he gave me so much companionship and love. I would like to have another little dog and give him a home too but at my age I don't know if I could do that. I loved Marco so.

Because Marco was so special, we commissioned a former student of my daughters to do a portrait of him. We will never forget how special he was. Thank you for the gift of Marco.

We knew Alexa was on borrowed time having both kidney disease and congestive heart failure, but we had no idea how short. Alexa has returned from her Frosted Fling and landed softly in an adoptive home with Jeremy and Charla just last week.

She wasn't eating well so we had her in for a recheck. Her kidney values were sky high. We tried to hospitalize her to flush out the toxins, but she became increasingly lethargic and was vocalizing inappropriately. If you knew Alexa, she was quiet and always alert watching your every move loyally.

Our girl was hardly within herself and we offered her a peaceful passing with her new family at her side.

Her mom shares, "We had an emotional goodbye this afternoon, sweet little Alexa will be so very missed. She was a joy and we are so glad we could shower her with love in her last days. She’ll always be in my heart."

Tribute: On November 28th Frosted Face Gatsby passed away.

Gatsby went on a two week Frosted Fling so that he could have a break from the kennel environment and we could learn all about him to help him find a forever family. Kim chose him because he could not see well and seemed the most frail. Kim is a woman of action drawn to the mission and it is so much like her heart to firstly, want to help by doing a Fling, and secondly, by choosing a dog like Gatsby.

Kim has written the following events with permission to share with you.

"I was so excited to bring Gatsby home for a Thanksgiving Fling and I quickly learned that I loved everything about this adorable tiny 12-year-old. I loved his toothless grin and the way he took small bits of hotdogs from my hand. I loved his cuddles and the little noises he would make when he nuzzled his head in my neck. Gatsby loved to bask in the sun, and it became routine for him and my other dogs to lay on the patio for a morning sun bath.

On the 8th day of our Fling, I left Gatsby in the care of my husband during my 12-hour shift at the hospital. The dogs were having their morning patio time under my husband’s supervision. All the dogs were settled on their beds and my husband ran upstairs to check an email. Then the unthinkable happened. The enclosure around the pool had been left open and Gatsby had fallen in.

As you can imagine the chaos that followed will forever be embedded in our hearts. He tried CPR with no avail and when I arrived home, I found my husband sitting on the ground bawling with Gatsby in front of him. We can’t claim ignorance or chance. It was our mistake. The gate was left open. We still can’t wrap our minds around the fact that we are responsible for the death of a dog in our care. A rescued dog that is now lost forever.

I write this story for awareness, hoping that this will never happen to anyone else. Gatsby was precious and fragile, and he deserved better. We apologize to all who cared for Gatsby while he was at FFF."

Bad things happen to good people and irreplaceable dogs at our mercy. We have had two other Frosted Faces drown in pools previously. For this reason we do not place dogs in homes with doggie doors that lead to pools, and if the family has a pool and they indicate that the dog would have indoor/outdoor privileges while unattended, we don't even ask them to alter their arrangement. We outright decline them based on the assumption people will always do what they have always done.

No one wants anything bad to happen to a dog, but we try to help people so they don't have to learn hard lessons with our dogs. The guilt alone isn't worth it. We also have a $5,000 liquidated damages clause, which we will exercise in circumstances where something happens to our Frosted Face due to a violation of the terms of our contract. In Kim's case, the family had a fence around their pool and they said without prompting that they never leave their dogs outside unsupervised. Plus, they love senior dogs and wanted to help. They passed our application process easily!

I know you value our transparency. My goal is not to drive away good people who made a mistake, but it's admittedly, so hard to call these things mistakes when they keep happening and the families have been adequately warned. I love Kim and I hate that this happened because it will forever change our relationship and our Gatsby's one little life is now gone. At the same time, this was, in fact, a mistake and forgiveness is in order to do far more good than bad together in days to come.

Please send Kim and her husband, Randy, a lot of love. They are good people who are also suffering, and we thank them for their courage to share Gatsby's true story with you so others may be more careful.

Tribute: On July 15th, the Sister League of San Diego fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Mika after we learned she had a bleeding liver mass with metastasis.

Executive Director, Nuria, shared,

"Very unexpectedly we had to say goodbye to our little sister Mika this past weekend. While we had noticed she was not quite herself, we all know with elderly dogs we may go through some scares and rough moments we hope pass. Unfortunately, that was not the case here when Mika had to be rushed to the ER on a Friday night. As much as we had hoped and tried to bring her home for a final goodbye that night, heaven couldn’t wait for her…

Mika was our little sister for an amazing year and half. She had over 20 mamas in the Sister League home that loved on her during her final chapter and we truly believe Mika knew this was her forever home.

We were warned upon bringing Mika home that she had severe separation anxiety, had a history of tearing up homes, and runaways in her past. While she did try to plan an escape when she first arrived, once she knew this was home she never thought twice about leaving… so much so that it would make taking her out for walks a bit difficult cause she didn’t even want to leave the block!

Sister League has a big hole at the moment.. we’re all still expecting to see her when we get to the home, hear her barks, or hear her clunk up and down the stairs. Mika was our sweet girl, our C-Arf!-O, and Head of Barketing.. More importantly, as one resident who was particularly bonded with her said, 'a best friend.' We love you, Mika!!"

"Hank fka Gadget was the sweetest dog we've ever had. And we have had a lot of dogs. We were going through a rough year with multiple social worker visits (we are in the process of adopting 2 children) and dealing with our own insecurities. Hank was just always there for all of us. He was our couch potato pillow, our doorstep greeter, our snoring dreamer, and our family member. He wasn't just a dog we had for a year and a half. He was the glue that held us together this past year and half.

His favorites were bath zoomies, eating time, and work days at the office receiving all the pets. Hank is greatly missed and never forgotten."

He shared,

"Yesterday morning I had to let the Peach go. Since she was hospitalized for heart failure in April, some days were better than others, but until yesterday she was doing pretty well: eating, in good spirits, & always up for an adventure in her backpack.

Her heart disease severely worsened her collapsing trachea. Wednesday morning, she was coughing uncontrollably: a loud, deep cough I had not heard before. The vet stabilized her with oxygen & a sedative & released her with new meds. She was fine for a couple of hours, but the cough returned & the meds did not help. I calmed her some by holding her, but it was temporary. She couldn’t breathe. She was scared & suffering. At 2:30AM, I took her back to the hospital.

To survive with her collapsed trachea, she would have to live a very quiet life. And while she was chill, she also had bursts of energy: she loved to explore, dig in her bed & run around. The activities she loved would now cause her to cough, stressing her out & making her cough more. It became a quality of life consideration.

Peachy was rescued, so we don’t know her age, but the shelter’s guess made her almost 15. I had her for 1.5 years — about as long as Lindsey did. In spite of this relatively short time, that girl was my family. Our bond was forged in deep trauma, & we helped each other heal. I don’t know what I would’ve done without her.

She was gentle (except to children, hehe), curious, brave, & silly. She made me laugh daily & brought joy to those she met. She loved adventure, & I took her anywhere I could. Very independent, Peachy wasn’t the most social, but she was fiercely loyal to her person & we were truly a pack of two. I loved seeing her face light up after she would lose track of me at the park & then find me again.

She wasn’t super snuggly, but after her heart failure, we had a morning routine. I would bring her in the bed & we would snooze together for up to an hour. I’m grateful for those additional 3 months, but I wish it were much more. Being Peachy’s dad became a huge part of my life & identity. Her passing leaves a big hole. I loved that pure, special little girl deeply, & miss her terribly."

"Hi Frosted Faces family this is Cloudy. The last time my mama Christie posted about me, it was my frostiverary. She was going to post again a few days later as that was my gotchaversary, but I got really sick and she kept putting it off hoping I would get better. Well that didn’t happen. I’m here to tell you that I have crossed over to the rainbow bridge🌈but I’m also here to tell you not to be sad for me because this place is WONDERFUL! I was met by my siblings that I had never met before, but heard so much about. I was met by my grandparents and grandma great! I was met by Betty White, can you believe it Betty White?, she’s awesome, I was met by so many Frosted Faces doggies that I have not felt lonely since I’ve been here. I want to share that I remember only the good stuff about my three years living with my mommies. I Don’t remember the bad stuff that happened at the end. I want to thank Kelly and Andy and all the staff and vets and vet techs at Frosted Faces for trying their best to do right by me, in the end, it turns out my pancreatitis was just a small factor in the decision to let me go. I was not recovering like most dogs do. I was on a hydrolyzed diet but stopped eating everything. I had dealt with Cushing’s. I was starting to have renal problems and it turns out I had cancer on my liver. My mom, Christie, and my mom, Sherry were so worried about their decision, but I was in such extreme pain and I was tired and I was ready to go to a better place and it is a better place believe me I am in no pain I can see clearly I can hear again I’m running around with so many cute puppies, I even met this dog name Zucky and he is hilarious and so much fun. He told me he used to be snarky when he was on earth and I just can’t believe it because he’s just the best. I saw Lily Buderus, she just got here too! And Toad Duran! I also met Jetsan again, Ali’s dog. He’s here with Nikki and Jewel. He LOVES to take me on car rides. I guess all fears go away when you get here. I think he’s gonna be my boyfriend. I always had a crush on him! I ran into it another dog named Cadence and she told me that my mommies gave her her freedom ride. She came over the bridge soon after her freedom ride, but was so thankful to them for bringing her to a place where she could be loved on for one extra day. She said she ate hotdogs on her last meal. I know my mom’s were hoping I could have one last good day but I had so many GREAT days with them. My mommy‘s took me on some road trips to see family along the west coast, the Pacific Northwest we went to Arizona numerous times my grand niece Jasper just loved me so much!! She used to call me Aunt Cloudy.

At the end My mama Christie laid on the floor with me trying to help me get better breath’s, she stuck her knuckle in my mouth so I could breathe better and I slept good for three hours with her knuckle in the corner of my mouth. Thank you mommy for trying so hard but just so you know you guys did make the right choice. I did not want to spend my final days away from you in a hospital somewhere. And things are perfect here and they’ll be even better when you get here to see me again.

Thank you Alicia also for helping me with my SQ fluids for the last few days of my life.

I’m sorry I’m rambling but I just want everyone to know that I had the BEST life and l loved my mommies so so so very much and I think they loved me even more! Is that even possible?

My mommies had to take me to our local vet on Sunday November 26th to let me go. When I started crying out in pain, I was telling them I was ready. So my soul left my body and I was watching from above. In the Clouds you might say 😉.

I watched as they took me on one more stroller ride to the end of the pier to get pictures with the Christmas tree. I watched as they sat with me to watch a last sunset together.

As I lay there I watched from above, them talking to me and giving me kisses and thanking me for being THE SWEETEST GIRL EVER. They reminded me that I never growled or snapped at anyone, even when children would get a little aggressive, I just walked away. I watched as they pondered if it was okay to keep me with them for another day. They were talking about how great it was to see me so peaceful after having weeks of stress and struggle.

Then I watched as they talked about setting up a freedom ride so when they took my body to FFF, they would be saving a few lives at the same time they had to say goodbye.

We drove to Frosted Faces Foundation , and delivered 5 dogs from Long Beach shelter ( thanks Kurin Perry for transporting to San Clemente).

I heard my mom’s talking about how odd it was that I never got stiff. It’s as if I was just sleeping. They looked it up and apparently if you lose all or most of your electrolytes before you die, RM doesn’t set in. When momma Christie handed me over to Alicia, she couldn’t believe it either. I heard them say they were comforted by that.

Thank you Michelle for giving me one last snuggle when I got there. And thank you to all the volunteers that were there that day giving my mom’s comforting hugs and kind words.

I’m also here to tell you that Rescue, is the only way we can get the overpopulation of dogs under control. Greeders need to be stopped. There is no reason to buy when you can find a great dog like me through a rescue.

Well FFFriends, my mommies have asked me to start looking for another dog to bring into their hearts. My 4 dog siblings and 2 cat siblings are all here and we’re looking. I will find the perfect one to fill the whole in their hearts.

Marvin

Tribute: On September 9th, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Marvin.

Marvin was left in the night drop box at Animal Friends of the Valleys back in November 2020. He had an elevated SDMA in his lab work and terribly rotten teeth, so we did dental surgery to make him more comfortable.

We placed him with a family who had an ancient senior dog themselves and wanted to fill the void. Marvin was under our Forever Foster program so we covered all of his surgeries, blood rechecks, scrapes, cultures, and meds for recurring skin and ear infections.

Marvin had his own Instagram page, lots of outfits, and I tracked down over 150 photos of him in our Adopter's group. This dog was well loved and provided attentive care. he slept in soft beds, even celebrated milestones of how long they had been together. Just a week before Marvin's passing, his family let us know they needed to return him because his skin was a mess and they didn't feel like they could provide him with adequate care.

Our contracts say that, "If a Family is unable or unwilling to pursue care, they must relinquish the Frosted Face back to FFF so that FFF can pursue treatment," and this is taking into consideration also that we pay for medical expenses.

Marvin showed up and his skin infection was back, his urine smelled and he was very thin. It's not that these guys were inept at taking care of him, it's that his body was declining. His kidney values were a creatinine of 4.0 and BUN of over 130 -> terrible. We cultured his skin which had a bacteria that was resistant to common antibiotics again.

There was really no room for negotiation at the time of surrender to shake his parents and say, "Hang in there," I honestly don't even think they realized it was "the end," but simply saw themselves as inadequate. I know my initial reaction was frustration and sadness, but after looking through all these photos they took of Marvin, it's really just sadness. They really felt like they were failing him and wanted someone else to make him better.

Marvin was on a week of fluids to flush out his kidneys and we were able to hospitalize him at our home clinic at FFF. He got strolled on hikes and was held very tightly by volunteers. After a week of treatment, we ran new bloodwork and it was worse and he looked worse. Volunteer, Alanna held him for hours on the patio, and lovingly held Marvin on his way to heaven.

Marvin was deeply loved by his family and volunteers at FFF.

Tribute: Today we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Thompson.

Thompson was abandoned in a wagon paralyzed in front of a pet store. It seemed he had suffered a recent injury and had not been paralyzed for long. He had great muscle mass, his fur was still white, and boney parts of his body weren't weathered as if he had been bed ridden for long. He served a stray hold at OC Shelter and rescues were asked to exit him as humane euthanasia was being considered.

We fit Thompson in a wheelchair that he adapted to almost immediately, he got all of your Help Em Up Harnesses that you donated (and so did his friends). We started him on various medications to hopefully improve his movement, but if anything, keep him comfortable.

Thompson got weekly acupuncture with Dr. Lipman for 6 months. She donated her services and never missed a week. Volunteer Physical Therapist, Danielle Robbins, worked on Thompson weekly providing laser, stretching, and exercises. Multiple volunteers took turns taking Thompson to Tsavo's Canine Rehabilitation & Fitness Center, Inc. where they also massaged, stretched, lasered, and let Thompson swim. We bought Thompson a human grade air mattress that prevents bed sores by pushing air through it continuously.

As we let people know, "We let Thompson go today," goodness does it feel like a conscious "letting go." Dogs don't usually live here as long as he did, I mean, they usually find families and his decline in front of our eyes from bad to worse was ever so slow. We were painfully arriving at the awareness that our hands were slipping, letting go one finger at a time. We clung to hope, we clung to all the good times we wanted to make possible for him, and we clung to what we thought he was owed to make up for his past.

Thompson would typically be up in his wheels running around the yard between 8:00-10:00am after breakfast, then he would get a little nap on his fancy bed in the center of the lobby where he was given countless fly by treats. At 12:30pm we would make sure a volunteer got him up in his wheels and walk him all the way down the driveway to the mailbox and back. It's a long driveway and there was no turning around until he made it. The guy had a lot of enthusiastic coaching! After another rest and dinner, we popped Thompson back up in his wheels from 4:00-6:00pm. As much as it is frowned upon, he loved to fence fight with the play group in the yard over. The thought was, "Well if Thompson is doing it, it's okay." Anyone else gets the squirt bottle. Video!: https://www.facebook.com/59510621/videos/10103882990004296

The last couple of weeks these times standing shortened to the point where we wouldn't or couldn't stay standing for more than 10 minutes. We had a good talk with Maja over at Tsavo's who is the way if there's a will. And that is where we arrived. Thompson was getting tired. His front legs and their ability to carry him were changing becoming stiffer and more neurologic where he could no longer even lay sternally. Laying on his bed for 23.5 hours each day would not be quality.

Thompson has been the center of the FFF lobby for the last 6 months, so in that same fashion he left behind his old body with all of the familiar faces around him: the FFF Kennel Managers, Andy and me, volunteer Laura Ponsor who spent a significant amount of time with him, and Dr. Lipman.

We want to thank all of you who loved Thompson from afar and the FFF volunteers who made him feel like the family. You hiked him every Sunday, when he was tired, you pushed his stroller and didn't let him know he was heavy. You brushed his beautiful thick fur when he was resting, and you fed him way too much human food! You always said "Hi" and "Bye" to him around your shifts like you do your own dogs faithfully waiting by the door. Thank you to Thompson's Fans who helped us provide incredible supportive care for him. We also want to thank the Kennel Managers, Alicia, Lexi, and Maira, who helped us manage Thompson's care. Getting an 85 pound dog in and out of a wheelchair three times a day, while keeping him clean, watered, and engaged was no small commitment and we know your compassionate hearts gave you physical strength some days.

"Our precious princess Sandy pants decided to chase ALLL the squirrels across the rainbow bridge the morning after 4th of July. We were on the way to Dr. Russell since she hadn’t been eating the past 2 days, and she decided it was time to go in the truck, with me stroking her sweet head and telling her what a good girl she was.

Sandy was the seriously the best dog- always happy and in a good mood, quirky, funny, loving and just the best. We were so lucky to have known Sandy since well before the glaucoma when she still had both her eyes, and we were so grateful to have had the honor to bring her home with us shortly after buying our forever home almost 3 years ago during the height of the Covid pandemic. We were so close to celebrating her 3rd Frostiversary!

She finally had a yard of her own, (with her fur-sisters), and was known for laying in the grass or in the deck. She also loved Balboa Park and THE SQUIRRELS! She used to chase them up the trees about 4-5 feet when she had vision, but they always seemed to win that game 😂. In her older years she was just content sunbathing in the grass with her fur-sisters and her people.

We love you forever sweet Sandy pants - such a good girl. Thank you, FFF, for letting us be her parents for her golden years 🩷."

Tribute: On December 1st, Robert and Kimberly fulfilled their promise to Maggie.

We exited Maggie, formerly Grizzly, from San Diego Humane Society on November 21st. We brought her to College Animal Hospital immediately where they reviewed her records and we redid x-rays and bloodwork. What we learned is that she had a mass in her chest that was pushing on her trachea and esophagus. This pressure was also causing pitting edema in her neck. We continued to monitor her breathing and appetite to determine what quality was left. We were offered a hint of hope that that mass could be operable if it was just in the mediastinum and hadn't metastasized. We scheduled a CT scan for direction, but Maggie did not live long enough to attend the appointment.

Needless to say, it wasn't tough to place Maggie. People love Corgis! Very special people, Robert and Kimberly, signed up for the gig even after learning that Maggie may not be with them for very long.

They found her favorite foods right away and Maggie toodled around her new house seemingly comfortably. I don't think any one of us would have let her go based on how well she started to eat and how bright her beautiful eyes were just yet, but just two days after Robert and Kim brought Maggie home, she passed away in the sunshine on her own terms. Paws into Grace received her body.

Her family shares, "Miss Maggie (née Grizzly) passed away this morning. We’re devastated to say goodbye after just 2 sleeps with her, but are honored she passed at the Fell Inn with people who loved her if only for a couple days. Bless @frostedfaces for trusting her with us. Maggie was the cutest chubby little Corgi ever."

"Thank You to FFF for giving my family the privilege of receiving a great bundle, of mama sally and her little daughter Lilli 3 years ago.

Sally was a Love Bug to everyone she met. She loved to talk walks down our road so she could lift her legs on every weed she sees. She would ask to be picked up by all neighbors we encounter.

Sally was a wonderful mom to Lilli, checking on her all the time.

They would cuddle together in one bed and blanket. Lilli misses her so much.

Sally was a great companion for me. always by my side giving me the love when I needed it. She had the funniest facial expressions, so you knew what she was thinking.

She was happiest out in the big back yard laying on a bed

guarding her kingdom in the sun. She even wanted out on the patio in the rain. I would have to pick up her in the bed to bring her in the house.

She never let me know if she was in pain, would let me know it was time to pick her up or lay down beside her and Lilli. She was very brave right to the end. She will always have a very special place in my family's hearts. I miss her ever so much.

"My little Roxie girl - my precious, pretty, princess....I don't think we really appreciated when we brought Roxie home that time with her would be so short. We knew she was mostly blind, mostly deaf, not potty trained, toothless and so, so sweet.

Roxie pretty quickly learned her path in the house and her daily routine, knew exactly where her food was and when it should be there and could always find one of her many beds. She joined our family mid-pandemic and a year into my working at home, and I am so thankful to have had every day with her. She actually seemed to realize when it was the week vs. the weekend and during the week dutifully reported for work to her bed in the office where she supervised me.

She kept me sane, in an otherwise sometimes lonely existence - regular eye drops (check), potty breaks (check), short walks down the street (check), loves and kisses (check). My wife, Rebecca, would often poke fun at me that I was "oogilygoogilygooing" Roxie and of course, I was - fawning over my little love.

I look at pictures of her when she first found her way to Frosted Faces - a medical mess, not groomed, not tended to or cared for - and wish I could have known her all her life; could have given her the best for her whole life.

What I do know for sure is that in the 13 months she was in our family she was cared for, she was loved and she was properly oggilygoogilied daily and hopefully that made up for at least some of the lost time.

"Elsa was a frightened dog when I first bought her home. She didn't like anyone in my 75 unit apartment complex. A few months later she realized that everyone here was friendly and nice. She became everyone's favorite. Elsa made me laugh all the time. She showed me so much love. When I dressed her in outfits she would look at me as if to say "are you really going to make me wear that?". She was so quick to show love. She was smart and learned to climb her doggy stairs in no time. Loved other dog and cat pets. Loved car rides. Our last night together we went to Texas Roadhouse where she ate her very own steak.

Maggie shared,

"Honey Bear is the second FF I’ve adopted over the last year. I was taking a break from the recent passing of my FF Stella Jean and had no intention of adopting as soon as I did with Honey Bear, but the funny thing is my family and friends are always looking at dogs for me to adopt and constantly send me pictures hoping I’ll swoop them up. Well guess what happened? My neighbor sent me Honey Bear's profile. The moment I saw her picture and learned of her story, I knew she would become the newest member of my family. She quickly became an “OG” in the neighborhood with the other geriatric dogs and my girls accepted her without hesitation.

Honey quickly became known for the lack of privacy she offered while her human was in the restroom. Each and every time I would take a seat and close the door (not all the way) Honey would come crashing in like she was kicking the door down serving a search warrant! It became common practice to the point I never got to sit straight on the toilet seat without my knees or face getting cracked by the door. But her company was always welcome lol.

Honey loved her In N Out puppy patties along with tons of treats…yes, a ton of treats! She was such a cool, chill, relaxed old lady dog. I never heard a peep from her; no barking or whining. But I know her hearing was intact because those pointy ears could hear the treat bag open from a dead sleep lol! I truly enjoyed her soft kisses and the direct eye contact she shared with me when I sat on the floor with her. She loved her face/muzzle being scratched and always tucked her face into my body to rub it on my shirts lol. She also liked to rub her face on the couch and almost always knocked over the tv tray holding my coffee. I think she did it on purpose sometimes for entertainment because she would smirk…no joke lol.

Well the time came when I started to notice the decline/change happening. During this time, I relied on my family, my neighbor Ann, and the Ring camera to check on her when I had to be away. I didn’t expect her to go so fast, but within a couple of days of the initial decline, she told me she was ready. On July 17, 2021, at 12:25 a.m., Honey peacefully went to heaven with me holding her. Even though these angels come into our lives for a short period of time, it never gets easier when they leave us.

Thank you Frosted Faces and the Final Wish Program for bringing Honey Bear into my life. I hope her original family has peace knowing she was loved and well taken care of during her final months/year of her life."

"Rooney was a special little guy. Some of you may remember him as having no qualms about biting people -- this tendency stayed with him until the end. However, he loved to be affectionate in his own way. He would cuddle, kiss, and demand belly rubs. He would spend most nights cuddled up under the covers with me, and I think I miss that the most. Nights are the hardest without my little one. Rooney only took a few weeks to bond after getting adopted, and soon after would follow me from room to room. Even with how weak he was on his last day, he still wanted to be near me. He was definitely a one-favorite-person dog and didn't really like anyone else (including within the household). He did get along great with other dogs, and I have plenty of pictures of him cuddled up with all of them. Our house feels a lot emptier without little Rooney.

About three weeks before his passing, Rooney suddenly developed terrible breath and blood-tinged drool, and so we scheduled him to have a dental appointment. However, the stress of the surgery was too much for his tiny body, and he developed acute-on-chronic kidney failure. It was clear he was suffering and it was not difficult to make a decision, albeit a heartbreaking one. He passed away with the help of our veterinarian on March 17, around 12:30 PM. I held him as he took his last breath, and will be grieving his loss for weeks to come. Rest in peace, little one."

"Yoyo has had so many friends that I feel I owe you all the news that he decided yesterday evening it was time for him to go. I don't even know where to start. It seems so unreal.

He came to FFF on December 3, 2020 from Riverside and was adopted soon after. Last May he was returned and somehow he moved me to take him home and add him to my furry family. YoYo immediately took charge. At 4 lbs he was the tiniest of my littles and one of my nicknames for him was Micro. He didn't care. He was blind and almost deaf. One of the few things he could hear was clapping, but he never figured out where the sound came from. He had heart disease and all kinds of old man issues, but he didn't let anything stop him. YoYo was absolutely fearless. He would bark in anyone's face who dared to come too close, telling them not to mess with him, no matter how big or scary they looked.

Over the months, YoYo slowed down. At first, he was so determined to always be close to me that he taught himself to climb and descend the wooden staircase to the second floor of my home if he was in search of me. He knew exactly where everything was. He found the way out on the patio when he had to go or wanted to sunbathe, he found the water bowl and all the beds around. Over time, he stopped using the stairs, slowly he lost his sense of orientation, I had to take him to the water bowl when he seemed thirsty, and he appeared more lost. Sometimes he would stand for an hour in the sun on the patio without moving. We added more medications, not only to manage his heart disease but also his coughing that was not caused by a cold, and to manage the pain from his stiffness and his leg issues.

YoYo's favorite was being held. I got a sweatshirt with a dog pouch and he LOVED sleeping in it. At night, he would sleep curled up touching me under the bed covers. And he would stay that way until I woke him up in the morning. When I prepared the dogs' meals, he would be in the kitchen with FF Priya (adopted) and FF Ewan (available), all of them barking, only when YoYo barked, his whole body lifted off the ground.

A week ago, YoYo started to get these episodes where he would all of a sudden collapse and turn completely lifeless. After a couple minutes, he would take a deep breath and slowly regain consciousness. This happened once a day for several days. Then it turned to twice a day. By then I had scheduled him for an appointment with Dr. Russell for Friday, today. However, YoYo had other plans. Yesterday evening, he did his usual barking game to get dinner, ate it all, walked around, collapsed, I picked him up, he was completely limp, I tried to wake him up, he took a breath and went back, we repeated it all, and when I next took a close look at him, his tongue was already blue. I didn't even notice the exact moment when he left. There was no fight, it was very peaceful. For a long time, I was in denial. I called Kelly, then watched a movie with YoYo on my chest, still hoping he was just in a deep sleep. But it was not to be. YoYo had other plans.

It's the little things that hurt the most. When my phone alarm went off to remind me to give YoYo his meds, when I, half asleep, tried to find him under the bed cover during the night to avoid crushing him, when I flipped back the bed cover in the morning to pick him up and take him out to potty, when his food bowl sits next to the others when I prepare the dogs' meals, when I find his belly band on the counter with a peed in Poise pad, when no one cries in search of me, when I see the sweatshirt with the pouch hanging over the chair and no one wants me to put it on and put him in, and so much more. Despite the fact that YoYo was so tiny, his personality was so big, he filled this home. It feels empty around here now. I miss you so much, Micro YoYo! You'll never know how much you meant. 💔"

"FFF family, my heart is shattered in a million pieces today. I had to say goodbye to my Bouncy Boy. His little body was failing him.

This past week, Bounce went downhill really fast. He was in kidney failure, in addition to having a huge splenic mass and thickening in the stomach lining. He was so much pain, he wouldn’t lay down, unless cradled in my arms or on his back. The blessing being, he actually let me hold him like a baby, and he was in my arms when he passed💔

If you know Bounce, you know he can be fiesty-he was adopted and returned a couple of times for bitey behavior. And he still tried to bite me at times, but was my constant shadow (I learned to look before I stepped back or I would step on him.) And I know he loved me as much as I loved him💙Bounce hated men, lol. But he loved my son and Julian was right there with us when we parted ways🥹.

I’m still in disbelief. He was so healthy until about a month ago-so healthy that people often thought he was a puppy! I’ll miss his silly sense of humor, his bouncy, flying ears that are the inspiration behind his name, the way his tongue hung out when he was relaxed, the way he would greet me at the door no matter how lousy he felt.

His newly adopted sister, and #1 fan, Lola Lia (who was his constant companion in the end) will miss her big brother, as will Penny Lane and Mochi.
