Date of Passing: May 13th, 2021
Family: Frosted Faces Foundation
Fans: Janet Franklin
Tribute: Yesterday we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Jock.
We noticed Jock's temperature was low, his gums were pale, and he was drooling. Volunteer, Laura Shadle, rushed him to the vet where bloodwork showed he had pancreatitis and x-rays showed he still had an enlarged heart. We hospitalized him for care, but we later learned he had a mass on his heart that had ruptured, and we lost him.
Jock had four adoption applications pending, waiting for his recovery from first a URI and now this. He was supposed to be with a family by now.
Jock enjoyed sleeping on the kuranda bed that had a roof! We was an excellent walker, living life in the moment smell by smell. He did little howls that melted our hearts, and also "talked" in a way that made you question, "Canine or child?" Jock was so soft and sweet, and expected so little.
As many volunteers babied Jock, his legacy lives on in the painful reminder that you never know how much time any of the innocent abandoned seniors have left. Thank you for all of the volunteers who show up for him and the others every day, acting as "stand-in parents" to nurture and create memories.

Date of Passing: April 19, 2023
Family: Amanda Patinkin
Fans: Elizabeth Matheis
Tribute: On April 19th, Amanda fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Murphy after battling seizures, CCD, and a lung mass.
She shared,
"We will miss him so much and was a part of our family. Thank you for connecting us with him.
Murphy and I had a special bond. He was my angry little guy and I just understood him."
Gulliver
Acquired from: OC Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 9
Date of Rescue: March 8, 2021
Date of Passing: July 9, 2024
Family: Joseph Russo
Fans: Bijoux, Tammee & Steven Dephilippis
Tribute: On July 9th, Joe fulfilled his promise to Frosted Face Gully.
He shared,
"I still remember the very first time I laid eyes on my Gully-san. I was saying hi to one of the dogs and looked over and saw a very distinguished-looking dog in one of the adjacent yards…. He was in a yard with beautiful little Dorothy, who I actually fell in love with immediately… Then I said hi to ‘Gulliver’ and he kind of looked me up and down and then just sauntered off indifferently. So of course, I had to take him on a fling… We got home and other than giving him food and putting a leash on him for walks, I just left him alone for a solid week, until he finally would look at me and give a lazy tail wag. By the end of that first week I knew I wanted to adopt him.
Gully wasn’t particularly affectionate, but it was pretty clear that I was ‘his person’. The only other person he ever seemed particularly interested in was his ‘grandma’, my mom. Especially strange because she’s not even much of a dog person, but she loved Gully and loved seeing the two of us together.
Gully had some issues with dog reactivity, and not tolerating most other people very well, but socialization classes and pack walks with the nice folks at Devotion to Dogs helped immensely. His house manners were impeccable, and he really was a joy to have around.
I just realized I’m starting to write a novel here, so I’ll cut it short and just say that I loved Gully very much and it broke my heart to have to say goodbye to him, especially after only three years…. He was such a good dog and he’ll be missed very, very much."
Buddy
Acquired from: Camp Pendleton Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 13
Date of Rescue: March 9, 2021
Date of Passing: October 12, 2022
Family: Tom & Elizabeth Hirsch
Fans: Janet Franklin
Tribute: On October 12th, Elizabeth and Tom Hirsch fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Buddy.
Elizabeth shared,
"Dear Frosted family, Our little Buddy developed a lung condition that was more than an infection seen on the chest Xrays and ultra sounds carefully lovingly taken at FFF vet team & read by others.
Buddy also had a 4/6 heart murmur and really could not breathe comfortably even with all of the treatments he was rapidly declining in the last week & cultures came back as something major other than infection. Tuesday, spent a long night together doing all the "mom" comfort things.
- We loved every day we had with him and especially my daily errands and companionship.
- Thank you FFF support team & Dr. Russel & vet team for helping us through his illness . It was a sad yet peaceful & tender experience to give Buddy end of life care on the front patio 10/12/22.
We will miss him dearly, and I am thankful for the opportunity to continue on with FFF volunteering , frosted flings & dates when the time is right. We miss you little Buddy 😘❤️🙏🏻

Max
Acquired from: Carson Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 12
Date of Rescue: March 9, 2021
Date of Passing: May 7th
Family: Charles & Ellen Antonelli
Fans: Karen & Walt Strohmayer
Tribute: On May 7th, Charles and Ellen fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Max.
Max was surrendered to the shelter by his family which is how he became a Frosted Face. He seemed fragile with a raging heart murmur, elevated liver values, and x-rays identified a big bladder stone. We did an echo the week before his passing in preparation for going in after that stone. We started him on heart meds of which he would be on for awhile and then get rechecked to make sure he would be strong enough for anesthesia.
On the night of the 6th, Max had a seizure which was followed by several other seizures in the care of Surfside Animal Hospital. By the afternoon of the 7th Max was circling and head pressing. Not knowing whether he would recover and all of his other conditions, Ellen rushed to be at Max's side to give him a peaceful passing.
Max demanded little. He wanted a soft bed to sleep in, to be reminded a loving touch was nearby, and a warm plate of chicken.
Charles and Ellen only signed up to be Max's fosters, not knowing they were giving him the incredible gift of a final family. We owe them so many thanks for opening their hearts.

Fans: Me-Shell
Tribute: On May 21st, Jim and Melanie fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Lovely.
Melanie shares,
"We knew it would be this way. We were all too aware that Lovely’s days were numbered.
Numbers. Those awful kidney function levels that can’t be changed after a certain point.
We knew we needed to accelerate giving her “the best of the rest of her life.” We did that.
We loved her fiercely... and waited for the time when she’d tell us: I’m ready to go.
That day came on May 21. Her beautiful little eyes could barely open and her cute little body was limp with exhaustion.
We tried real hard to turn things around, naively I suppose — but ever so hopeful.
We know we made her feel safe, loved, and comfortable. We trust her unthinkable days as a stray were long forgotten.
We are heartbroken. We knew it would be this way. And it is so worth it.
Run free darling Lovely. It was heaven here with you."

Rolo was the best dog we could ask for. Thank you all for allowing Rolo to be part of our family. We love and miss him dearly."
Dylan
Acquired from: San Diego Humane Society
Age upon Rescue: 9
Date of Rescue: March 10, 2021
Date of Passing: June 16, 2023
Family: Carleen Blandin
Fans: Hilary Hanna
Tribute: On June 16th, Carleen fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Dylan.
She shared,
"With sadness, My beautiful boy Dylan, crossed the rainbow bridge Friday, June 16, wrapped in my arms at home. Dylan was slowing down over the last several months and lately he started falling down a lot and leaning into things. I left the house on Wednesday and returned to find him down. Got him up and he did not look well. I rushed him to ER hospital in Poway. Doc thought he had something going on in his brain so loaded Dylan with steroids and I took him home in the morning. Dylan bounced back but it was short lived and he continued to decline. Dylan let me know he was ready for heaven and I had Paws into Grace doc come to our home.
I adopted Dylan for hospice care April 4, 2021, knowing our time together would be short, he was so frail and sick. But we had 2 years and 2 months of loving, spoiling, beautiful and fun days together!
Dylan loved to go and car rides were his favorite so I took him for a ride just about every day. He loved outings and going to the park and beach.
For some reason he did not like hanging out in the yard with me for very long periods of time. He would run around for a bit and then stand at the slider wanting to go in. I suspect he may have been left outside in his previous life and he said no more.
Dylan was not a cuddler but he tolerated being hugged and smooched on all day, everyday. He melted my heart just having him near.
He loved sleeping in bed with me and his labbie brother and mostly slept through the night every night.
Dylan made me laugh a lot. He could give serious side eye with those big, dark poodle eyes.
He was a quiet boy but started to mimic my lab and run to the front door barking at the mailman. This really made me laugh, so cute.
I am grateful Kelly and Andy rescued him and gave him life and I was the lucky one to love him and spoil him for the rest of his days on earth. He had great medical care by Dr Russell and the wonderful vet tech team who kept Dylan going these years.
I miss him so very much.
Until we meet again my brave and beautiful, sweet boy."

Date of Rescue: March 10, 2021
Date of Passing: March 31st, 2021
Family: Frosted Faces Foundation
Fans: Gina Gattari
Tribute: On March 31st, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Sputnik.
Sputnik was originally brought into the shelter as a stray, worked up and neutered, and then adopted out. He was returned shortly thereafter and exited to us.
We realized immediately that Sputnik did not seem mentally appropriate. Being that SDHS doesn't typically exit dogs to us in too terrible of shape, because they take care of them at their own hospital, we reached out to share our concerns. "Was Sputs like this at the shelter? Was he standing? Circling? Eating? Crying?" They showed us video of him walking all around the play yard seemingly normal.
Our exam, bloodwork, and x-rays didn't find anything treatable, so we started him on a course of steroids and meclizine thinking it may be vestibular. It was admittedly hard to tell because he had an eye with a thick cataract and the other was diseased. During the course of time in our care he always ate well! After a few days of treatment he wasn't so squinty and seemed less sleepy and ill, but more distressed.
The hardest part about what we do is not knowing the dogs' history, and receive them in a declining state. We gave volunteers a heads up that the end seemed near so they treated him to SO much good food and outings. The following week, man, it just felt like, "One more week wouldn't hurt. Let's just see if he comes around." So again, he got another "last week" of stroller rides, special sunsets, and junk food.
So many loving eyes on him filled with hope, but also the desperation to set him free if he was suffering. If only dogs could talk. If only all dogs had loving owners to speak on their behalf...
Sputnik did not have a quality existence and we kindly let him go.
We loved you, Sputs.
Jobie
Acquired from: San Diego Humane Society
Age upon Rescue: 8
Date of Rescue: March 10, 2021
Date of Passing: March 16, 2024
Family: Sean Mullowney
Fans: Tommi Ellis
Tribute: On March 16th, Sean and Jamie fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Jobie.
They shared,
"Our little Jobie (Jobidee, booty boy, Jobidiah, Jobiahs, Jobiloo, Joe Byron, Bon Jobie) passed. In September 2022, the day we picked Jobie up, we sat outside FF, he smiled and rested his head in my hand. He trusted us immediately and fit so seamlessly and pleasantly into our lives that we're worried he may have ruined other dogs for us (kidding 🙂)
Every morning he woke up slowly then bounded with excitement. He met everyone with a gentle nose boop to the leg. He did not walk, he'd trot and on multiple occasions we were stopped on the street and asked if he was a show dog.
Jobie was patient, sweet, and slow. He was the kind of dog that even dog skeptical people liked. His greatest reviews were: "I would get a dog if he was like Jobie", "Jobie is the only dog allowed at my house", and my personal favorite, "he's such a kind dog".
He really was so sweet. He was the perfect, calm presence during some very difficult times. And a steady source of happiness and love each and every day.
We are so grateful to have been his family. We are gutted he's gone, but comforted knowing that, without a doubt, he was happy in his final years.
Jobie passed calmly at home, he was surrounded by his family and with his head in my hand, just like the day we got him.
Thank you Jenna, Bethany, Jennifer, Kelly, Dr. Russel, Melissa, Dr. D (and everyone who contributes to the success of FF). You empowered and supported us through one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. Thank you for what you do!"

"I have spent the weekend dreading making this post. We said goodbye to Willie (fka BJ) on Thursday with the help of Dr. Russell and the support of FFF. It was a really tough week but we are getting through it. It became clear on Thursday that his suffering anymore would be unfair. Though we wanted so much more time with our little guy we realized it was in his best interest to allow him to go where he would never hurt again.
We want to thank FFF medical team and support team who provided excellent, expert care and responded so quickly with last minute emergency appointments and showed Willie, as well as ourselves, so much kindness.
We also send out our thanks to FFF as a whole, the volunteers, the fans, the staff, Kelly and Andy, everybody! Without you we may have never had anytime with our very special snuggly little boy. Thanks for all you do! We miss Willie and are grateful for all the happiness he brought us ❤️"

Danielle shared,
"I still remember coming to get her at FFF she was very ill and still recovering from surgery, she was so frail I didn’t think she was going to make it. But I had come from Tucson just for her and already had waited a month to finally make her part of our family. I knew I was going to love her even if it was for a short time. But she had pulled through after another round of antibiotics and soon her personality changed.
She still loved to sleep but absolutely loved food! Hillary was always the first one sniffing around for a snack or scrapes that may have been left behind. Everyone who met her just adored her. She was such a cuddle bug. I miss her so much I just wish I had more time with her.
Since adopting older dogs we just never know how long we will have them, one thing that gives me peace is that I provided a safe warm bed, her prescription diet (she would only eat the canned gravy morsels) and a ton of love to her everyday she was with me. Forever she will have a special place in my heart."

"Unfortunately, after further investigation and being hospitalized for days, the vets found that Rachel's lungs were in terrible condition and she was having a very hard time breathing.
We still do not know the reason. We believe that Rachel has had this condition before but I didn't know and wasn't aware of it. The vets were not able to do anything because her conditions were so bad, so we had no choice but to put her down. She went peacefully in my son's arms. I'm very sad to tell you this news as it is almost our one-year anniversary with Rachel.
Rachel spent a lot of time with my youngest son and she had a great time with our family! We miss Rachel."

She could no longer tolerate eating or drinking. Jarrod carried her into the vet and she passed away as soon as they gave her the sleeping medication.
Thank you for allowing us to bring her home last year. She filled our hearts with so much joy. She was the sweetest old lady who loved her snacks!
Jarrod put together a little video today. I am in DC on a work trip and Jarrod stayed home from work all week long trying to get her better. Unfortunately we knew she was ready but tried to convince her to hang in there a little longer."

Tribute: On December 15th, Debra and Larry fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Butters.
"I am so sad to say Butters crossed the rainbow bridge. We have been trying for a month to figure out why she wouldn't eat without appetite enhancer and anti-nausea med. We had X-ray, blood tests and ultrasound done and the latest test from the Drake Center in Encinitas pointed to cancer. We had a detailed ultrasound done that showed tumors in spleen, liver, and lungs. She was trembling in pain and we had to make the decision.
Becky seems pretty chill with the change so far, we are giving her lots of attention which she had been lacking for the past month with so much attention on Butters. She did sniff me over thoroughly when I returned from the vet and I wonder if she figured things out. I also put Butters collar and leash near the bed where they slept which I read online somewhere is something you can do to communicate the loss."

Tribute: On May 16th, Kim fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Paisley.
She shared,
"Many of you know how hard this is to write. Rest in peace sweet Paisley (AKA Crackers)
Paisley was used as a breeder, abused and discarded on the streets to survive on her own.
But her misfortune changed when she was rescued and brought to Frosted Faces. She was very underweight, her stubby legs were short and bowed, she was one eyed, which led to bumping into things, and she struggled with chronic itchy skin (a little on the stinky side).
When I saw Paisley on the Frosted Faces website, I was smitten. I could not resist those two front teeth that stuck out with her underbite. I saw her beautiful brindle coat, her curious gaze and her tilted face. She was some mix of bulldog and Frenchie. I took her home as my Forever Foster to live with her pug brother Ziggy and my dog walking sons.
It wasn't a perfect fit at first, it took time, she was a bit fearful, unsure and we had many potty issues. She had to learn how to be a house dog and figure things out. Beds, sofas, toys, oh my!
She had a mealtime now, walks a plenty, and hugs and smooches. She had cats to annoy and she always did, she had people to take her places and a new leash on life! Pun intended! She sang for her supper, in case I hadn't noticed the time, and she barked at the closed garage door which meant "take me for a car ride, preferably to Starbucks!" She loved her new toys but only as long as the squeaker kept squeaking. No squeak, no interest!
She was an angel, with a heart of gold! She had the best baggy, smooshy face for kisses. She was a perfect bed buddy, spooning and snoring. She comforted me, she tickled me with her antics, she loved me and her boys. She left too soon after complications post surgery. She deserved more time living the good life. If love could have saved her she would have lived forever. We wish we had more time, we are broken and feel like we'll never be the same. I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge someday my love! I miss you so very much!
We appreciate all who loved and cared for her. It takes a village as you know and ya'll are the best villagers around!"

Date of Rescue: March 21, 2021
Date of Passing:
Family: Janet Weber
Fans: Sharon Martin
Tribute: On September 17th, Janet fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Twinkle.
She shared,
"It is with a heavy heart to say Twinkle crossed the rainbow bridge so she could shine brightly with the stars. Twinkle came into our home during spring. Twinkle and Miss E brought new life into our hearts and home. Everyone looked forward to greeting the girls and we laughed at how they were so spoiled that the humans were the last to be greeted when entering. I knew Twinkle was in poor health when I adopted her. FFF was very open about her kidneys and requirements. It didn't matter much to us, we fell in love with the sisters immediately and didn't want them to be separated.
This was one of the best decisions we made for our family. Everyone questioned and said how lucky the girls were to have found us but it's the other way around. We were lucky to receive them. It was hard to tell that they were both recovering from kennel cough. Their playful spirits still came out strong. Twinkle was a pleasant surprise. Though she was small she was mighty and clearly the alpha. She knew how to keep us all in line with her barks, wags, and hugs (she would stretch her neck out and rest her head on you).
Twinkle loved making eye contact, it didn't matter what was going on you knew if she was watching you. Even in a stroller, she preferred to turn around and watch you vs. what was happening outside. She loved to carry around her toys and would often bring them to you, then pull back and growl with her tail wagging. This was her favorite game, she loved it when you would pretend you were going to grab it. Her favorite is the green fish that FFF sent home with us. Somehow she managed to rip out all the stuffing but had a fit when it tossed it all in the trash. She stomped in circles and barked until I retrieved the limp fish out and gave it back. You will see the difference in the pictures (I'm keeping that old fish as a keepsake).
As seasons change, so did Twinkle. I noticed she was losing weight quickly no matter how hard I tried to get her to eat. I reached out to the FF support team and they got Twinkle scheduled in with the on-site vet (very nice). It was during the visit that the doctor was able to confirm that Twinkles kidneys had shut down beyond saving. As hard as it was to hear or accept what was said, I understood the why. It was Twinkle's time and I think she knew it. She looked at me with her loving eyes and then I accepted it. This was about doing what was best for Twinkle. She gave our family so much love, laughs, and pure joy for 5 amazing months. We wish we would have had more time, but are grateful for what we received. No regrets, just gratitude for a dog that loved us no matter how bad she felt.
Her sister Miss E misses her. The girls loved each other and had to be near each other all the time. She now lays in all of Twinkles spots (they had their favorite sides, or maybe Twinkle decided that for them, lol). Miss E is doing good, we are giving her extra attention but every now and then I catch her looking for her sister.
Thank you FFF for everything."

Tribute: On August 25th, Herlinda and Arthur fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Loki when he passed on his own while being hospitalized for pancreatitis among other issues.
Herlinda and Arthur were part of our Seniors for Seniors Program with the help of volunteer liaison, Kim Chase. We also owe thanks to special help from volunteer Cheryl Square who helped with veterinary transports too!
The family each wrote a tribute about Loki, and we don't get to see hand written love letters very often. Instead of relaying what they said, we would love for you to read them. ❤
Fly High, sweet Loki.

Tribute: On December 10th, Laura fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Mickey.
She shared,
“Mickey crossed the rainbow bridge on December 10th. I still remember the day I brought him home for the first time and how happy he was about riding in the car, the first time I met Mickey he stole my heart immediately. He was never a cuddly dog but he was loving and sweet in his own way. He would always look up at me with his cloudy eyes and always follow me around. Every night he knew it was time for bed he would come trot along right behind me to bed. Eventually he would enjoy laying on the couch with me as long as I let him take up all the space. His most cute quirk was his obsession with laying on my clothes and rubbing his face on them, to the point where I would always have to leave a pile of my clothes on the floor while I was at work. He was such a sassy little boy and loved food and treats, he would even bark if I left food on the counter or even an empty plate on the coffee table.
When I first adopted Mickey his biggest medical concern was that he had a 6/6 grade heart murmur but it seemed to be stable 2 years later with the help of medication and his scheduled echocardiograms. Nothing slowed him down. His last week he suddenly stopped eating as all his food and when barely drank water I took him to the Emergency Vet. He stayed in the ER vet overnight on a low dose of continuous fluid due to his heart issues, It progressed to Kidney failure and the next afternoon his lab values were worse and the vet said it was most likely cancer or a severe GI infection. I would have done whatever it took to get him healthy again but he let me know that it was the end of his road.
He was cuddled up in blankets on my lap when I let him go and I told him how much I loved him and what a good boy he was. Nothing prepared me for him leaving but I try to remember what a good life he was able to live in the end. He was so loved by my friends and family. He was the first dog of my own, and I’m just so incredibly lucky that he came into my life. I miss him more than words, I miss him waiting at the door for me and hearing his footsteps at 6 in the morning. No measure of time would have been enough but I’m so happy for the 2.5 years of love he gave me. He was an amazing dog, truly the easiest and most gentle little gremlin. Thank you to Frosted Faces and the amazing things they do for these dogs.”
Indio
Acquired from: Coachella Valley Shelter
Age upon Rescue: 14
Date of Rescue: March 26, 2021
Date of Passing: April 21st, 2021
Family: Frosted Faces Foundation
Fans: Mary Ernst
Tribute: On April 21st we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Indio.
Indio came to us with a whole host of problems from a foreign body, to dental disease, and a persistent cough. He seemed okay at first and we got his surgery on the books, he was even humping dogs in the play yard. He looked dumpy soonafter and we hospitalized him suspect of pneumonia. When he was eating and breathing more comfortably again, he was back out having fun with the best of them waiting to be chosen by his new family.
That day never came, as last week he was looking wobbly in the play yard and then drew his last breaths. Volunteer, Mary, rushed him to the vet. Shocked by this loss, we did a necropsy to discover terribly diseased lung tissue that more possibly looked like lung cancer.
For such an independent guy, we sure wished that we had more opportunities to hold him and tell him that he was special.
We are so sorry, Indio.

"Today we gave our precious Apollo the gift of peace.
Two weeks ago Apollo had a severe seizure and his health declined rapidly since then.
After an exam and several more issues, we knew it was time to set him free.
Thank you Paws into Grace for your sympathy and compassion during this difficult time.
Thank you Frosted Faces Foundation for everything that you do. Senior dogs really are the best and I encourage everyone to consider a senior dog when looking to adopt.
Words cannot express the sadness in our hearts. However, we are grateful that we got TWO full years with our precious Apollo aka Pooper.

Tribute: On April 1st, we fulfilled our promise to Frosted Face Fluff.
Fluff was surrendered by her family and we don't know the reason. It was clear that she needed more care than she had been provided.
Sherry and Christie brought her and 5 other dogs down to FFF. She seemed confused about her new surroundings, but did not act 16 years old like the family had claimed. She moved well and her teeth didn't look so bad! Her eyes lit up around food!
Carleen hiked Fluff at the FFF group hike on Sunday and we groomed away all of her mats at The Buried Bone on Monday. She was a brand new dog and you should have seen her trot with her head held high. Her bloodwork and x-rays on Wednesday were darn near unremarkable, but she had a little fever that day on exam. We gave her some subQ fluids and she perked up, went on a walk to go potty and ate dinner. Nothing that waved a red flag.
We tucked her in next to Thompson in the lobby that evening. Being paranoid about the loss of Debbie the previous evening, my stomach ached during the night, telling me to go check on Fluff. In the very early morning hours I found Fluff had passed in her sleep on the very bed I had left her on.
We can't explain it, and it's truly shocking to lose two dogs this way in one week. What we do know is that we are rescuing senior dogs whose families disposed of them, that now have to endure stressful shelter environments, a change of food and schedule, they are exposed to new viruses, and if I may anthropomorphize a bit- they probably miss their families and maybe decline as a result. It could be all of that, in addition to the fact that we simply rescue more dogs nowadays, so the occurrence of death, splenectomies, bites- gosh, all the bad things seem to come to mind, is higher. But really, so many good things happen too, like so many more senior dogs finding homes.
Fluff died somewhere safe and loved, clean and comfortable. I hesitate to say she passed with dignity, as natural death seems scary, and I wish we would have known she was suffering in some way to be able to offer her euthanasia. It wasn't the perfect last chapter, but it was one written with love.
We loved you, Fluff.

Tribute: On January 4th, Craig and Lisa fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Shadow Belle.
"2022 hasn’t started off as we hoped. We had to make the decision on Jan 3rd to release our sweet girl Belle (Shadow Belle) from her failing body.
Unfortunately, the episode of pancreatitis along with kidney failure that she had at the beginning of December set up a cascade of downhill issues for her. Despite lots of fluids, meds, appetite stimulants and abundant snuggles, she let us know that she was ready.
It’s always amazing to me how such a tiny little soul can leave the house feeling so empty when they leave. We all miss her terribly. Her pittie best friend has been pretty sad and I miss her cute little face so much.
She was literally a perfect dog. In the seven months we had her, she never once barked. She loved everyone she met, human and animal alike, slept like a champ, was my dutiful office buddy and enjoyed every adventure we embarked on.
On her final day here on earth she and I spent hours snuggling in our favorite chair, listening to quiet music. I told her how much we loved her and how happy we were that we’re really bad at 'fostering.' We were able to send her off to Heaven in our home, surrounded by everyone who loved her.
My only regret is that we didn’t get more time with her. RIP sweet girl. We’ll see you again! ❤️"

Date of Passing: July 23, 2023
Family: Barbara Johnson
Fans: Ellie & Missy Ash-Bala
Tribute: On July 23rd, Barbara fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Dexter when a mass on his heart ruptured.
She shared,
"For the 2 short years he was in my life he brought me so much love, joy and companionship. I looked so forward to coming home and his running up to the door to great me, his tail going a mile a minute and he is kisses. He was a bed hog. He was the best boy, he loved his baths, car trips, walks, my children and family, his kitty cat friends who lived with him. He gave so much to me. My heart still hurts from losing him to cancer.
I did ask the Dr if he could please euthanize Dexter in the back of my car so Dexter would know he was coming home. The doctor really found that to be a wonderful idea. I was able to walk Dexter out of the clinic let him know he was going home and hold him until he went on. He left us at 8:15 pm tonight in peace and his tail wagged on the way to the car. I gave him love from all of you and waited to breakdown until after he'd gone. I was the lucky one to have him in my life.
Not a day goes by I don’t think about him or say good morning to him. I can’t thank you and the Frosted Faces enough for the gift of Dexter in my life."

Age upon Rescue: 15

Date of Passing: March 9, 2022
Family: Jennifer Chen
Fans: Jennifer Stofferahn, Alisa Trakulboon, Valerie Christell
Tribute: On March 9th, Jennifer fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Dixie.
Jennifer shared,
"Dixie came home with me on April 7th of 2021. She was a chunky monkey of a tan chihuahua. I learned that she just lost her sister recently, so I wanted to make sure that she knew nothing but love and MORE love at home with me. Dixie had a few illnesses that she was fighting, but I made sure that she had everything she needed to overcome them.
Slowly but steadily, Dixie got better and stronger. She started toddling around in the yard. She took interest of the flowers and the grass. We visited parks and basked in the sun. She enjoyed bagel breakfasts on weekends followed by hikes where she rode shotgun in a backpack. She slept in bed with me so I could snuggle and hold her nightly. One day, Dixie’s sassiness came through when I heard her first bark - it came when I was late in bringing the princess her dinner. The bark was deep and commanding. I couldn’t have been prouder! She took over from then - she let me know if she wanted up on the couch, to be let out of her x-pen, to have another snack. I granted her every wish because nothing brought me more joy than to dote on her.
Earlier this year I noticed that Dixie was slowing down. She started having seizures that took her days if not weeks to recover. Two weeks ago, she had another bout of UTI and it hit her hard. Last Wednesday, she took a turn for the worse and we rushed down to Frosted Faces. Test results prompted a discussion about quality of life. I made the painful yet necessary decision to let her go. As I sat on the porch holding Dixie, I reminded her how much I love her and how happy she has made me this past year. Surrounded by love and kindness from everyone at FF, Dixie was freed from all pains. I cried, and I held her close, for one last time.
Sadness hits me at random times during the day, and I succumb to the grief. I miss Dixie, I miss seeing her smile when I gently massage her chin or scratch behind her ears, I miss shifting her butt away from my face as we get ready for bed. I reminisce about our outings, her bumbling through the yard, the attitude that she gave me, and the kisses that I stole. Caring for Dixie helped me realize that we are resilient to the ultimate heartbreak, and that our capacity to love is limitless."
